A Ring Link Failure Notification (RLFN) message was received. This message emanates from a cascade port on a BPE whose upstream port has lost its connection to the controlling bridge. The ring is severed, and the BPEs that remain are forming cascades to the controlling bridge. That cascade port becomes upstream for that BPE. BPE that are upstream from the BPE that detected the failure have received and are reacting to the RLFN message, reorienting the data flow direction where required.
